Higher Aunemouth Camping
Tent-only farm fields a 20-minute walk from Bantham Beach, with moorland and sea views, real campfires, and nothing switched on.
Higher Aunemouth sits above the South Devon coast on a working farm, spread across three fields with different outlooks: the View Field catches the estuary and Burgh Island on a clear morning, while other pitches look north to the moors. Bantham Beach is half a mile down the lane on foot.
This is back-to-nature camping stripped back to what matters. No electric hookups, no glamping, no entertainment programme. You bring your tent, you light your fire (own firepit required), and the sea air does the rest. The family running it have kept the operation honest: 50 pitches maximum, showers and loos kept clean and stocked, and music off at 9.30pm so quiet hours mean something.
The Sloop Inn at Bantham is the nearest pub. The South West Coast Path runs practically from the gate, making the site a natural base for day walks along this stretch of coast. Dogs are welcome throughout.
Before you book
- The track to the fields is rocky, a reviewer noted car damage; check the site's access warning before driving anything low-slung.
- Campfires require your own firepit; the site does not supply them.
“A classic South Devon coastal field that earns its reputation through honesty: no hookups, real fires, a short walk to one of Devon's best beaches.”
Why it made the cut
- Half a mile from Bantham Beach on foot, with sea and estuary views from the pitches
- Tent-only, no electricity, real campfires, genuinely back-to-nature rather than just claiming it
- Family-run at a scale (50 pitches) that keeps it from feeling like a commercial operation
- Budget pricing from £8/night for a coastal setting that justifies a lot more
