Heart Of The Wye
Five individually styled yurts in a wildflower meadow on the Herefordshire-Wales border, with valley views that earn the drive and hosts who treat whole-site hire like a house party.
Heart of the Wye sits in several acres of wildflower meadow on the border of Herefordshire and Wales, a short drive from Hay-on-Wye. The Golden Valley and Wye Valley roll out across the horizon: big, unhurried views that shift colour through the day and give way to properly dark skies at night.
The five yurts are individually themed and well above what the word 'glamping' usually promises: hotel-quality bedding, wood-burning stoves, private decking with fire pits and chairs under canvas tarps for when the Welsh weather arrives. The communal kitchen is fully equipped, and the shower block is clean and well-maintained. There's a small orchard on site, and the whole layout has the feel of a place Anne and Sam have thought hard about.
Whole-site hire is the sweet spot: twelve to fourteen people, a milestone birthday or a family reunion, one valley to yourselves for the weekend. The drive to Hay-on-Wye takes about eight minutes and puts you within reach of the bookshops, the festival, and the River Wye, where The Warren is a short trip for swimming and messing about by the water. Canoeing the Wye and hiking the surrounding hills are both easy to organise from here.
“A rare glamping site where the view, the hosts, and the yurts are all doing exactly what they should be doing. Book the whole site for a group and it becomes something close to a private valley retreat.”
