Glentress Forest Lodges

A forest base camp for the 7stanes trails, with fire pits, pods, and Peebles town five minutes down the road.

Glentress Forest Lodges sits at the foot of Glentress Forest, a few minutes from Peebles in the Scottish Borders. The 7stanes mountain bike trail network starts essentially across the road: the ride from your pitch to the trailhead is measured in seconds, not minutes. Go Ape is on the same site. This is a place where the location justifies the trip entirely.

The site mixes grass and hardstanding pitches with heated timber pods and bell tents, giving it a spread of options that goes beyond a single clientele. Fire pits are available on select pitches, and the woodland setting means the whole place feels genuinely removed from anything suburban. The Handlebar grill nearby is a solid post-ride food option, and Peebles offers everything else within minutes.

Edinburgh is 45 minutes away, which makes this an unusually convenient escape for city-based mountain bikers who want trail access without a long drive. Families travelling with younger kids get the play area and the Go Ape ropes course as ready-made programme; couples in a pod get the forest and the fire.

Before you book

  • Facilities have received mixed reviews: showers have run cold in off-peak periods and the communal kitchen may not match the pitch quality, so bring cooking kit.
The only campsite in the Scottish Borders where you can unpack, clip in, and be on the 7stanes network before the kettle has boiled. The forest setting and trail access are the whole point.

Why it made the cut

  • Direct access to 7stanes mountain bike trails from the pitch
  • Forest setting with fire pits, pods, and bell tents, not a flat field
  • Go Ape and Peebles town within minutes, Edinburgh 45 minutes
  • Suits families, couples, and groups equally well thanks to the mixed pitch mix
