Gilestone Glamping

Private safari tents and larch lodges on the River Usk, each with a wood-fired hot tub and the Brecon Beacons at the door.

Gilestone sits on the banks of the River Usk in Powys, a few minutes' walk from the pubs and village shop of Talybont-on-Usk. The Brecon Beacons rise directly from the farm's back fields, making this one of the most direct bases for walking or cycling into the national park without giving up comfort at the end of the day.

The seven units divide between safari tent lodges and wooden larch lodges, each self-contained with a private wood-fired hot tub, fire pit, and its own shower and toilet. Interiors are properly done: wood burners, real cooking kit, a fridge. The lodges look out over the farm and up the Usk Valley. Owner Charles runs the place himself, and the warmth of a family-run operation is evident from arrival. Reviews consistently flag the care in the details and the generosity of the welcome.

The canal and Talybont Reservoir are both reachable on foot or bike from the gate, along with the community orchard on the farm grounds. For a site at this price point, the location does serious work: the national park, the river, the village.

Before you book

  • Wood-fired hot tubs take a couple of hours to reach temperature, so plan accordingly on arrival day.
Gilestone earns its reputation through the combination of genuinely private units, a working-farm host who cares, and a Brecon Beacons location that justifies the premium. This is glamping that actually delivers on what glamping promises.

Why it made the cut
