Forest and Wye Valley Caravan and Camping Site
A well-run family-operated base camp between the Forest of Dean and the Wye Valley, where the trails start from your pitch and the stars are actually visible.
Forest and Wye Valley sits on Bearse Common near St Briavels, positioned squarely between two of the best walking landscapes in the south of England. The Forest of Dean and the Wye Valley AONB wrap around the site on both sides, meaning you can be on a proper woodland trail within minutes of arriving. That geography is the whole point.
Pitches run to around 25-30 for tents, all pre-allocated at booking, which keeps arrivals orderly and the field from filling with neighbours pressed against you. Caravans and motorhomes are also welcome, with hardstanding options and electric hookup throughout. Facilities are clean and heated: showers, toilets, a washing-up area, laundry room, boot and dog wash, and a motorhome service point. Reception closes at 6pm with a 1pm arrival from.
St Briavels village is a 20-30 minute walk across the fields, and there's a pub there worth the stroll. Just below the site, Tufa crystal formations grow in a stream gorge: a genuinely unusual natural feature found nowhere else in Europe at this scale. Puzzle Wood and Coleford are a short drive. Wi-Fi exists but phone signal is patchy, which guests consistently mention as a feature rather than a problem.
Adults only would find it perfectly fine here, but the site leans into families: the facilities are geared for children, the atmosphere is unhurried, and groups are accommodated with pitches clustered together on request. Fires are permitted in the evenings.

“A genuinely useful base camp in an outstanding landscape area, run by a team that clearly looks after the place. The Wye Valley AONB on one side and the Forest of Dean on the other is a combination that earns the journey.”
