Country Living Caravan Site

Quiet adults-only caravan site in a conservation village, with open views, wildlife on the doorstep, and a bus to York at the end of the lane.

Twelve pitches in the conservation village of Thorganby, a handful of miles south-east of York. Half are grass, half gravel hardstanding, and all have water laid on; electric hookup is metered so you pay for what you actually use. The pitches look out over woodland, and the owners Lesley and Dave have kept the site small on purpose: space between pitches, no crowding, no noise after 10pm.

The Lower Derwent Valley stretches out around the village, and the local walks make the most of it. A footpath from the site reaches a fishing lake directly; another takes you across the fields to Wheldrake and the Wenlock Arms. The Drovers Arms at Skipwith is a short cycle. Deer and buzzards are regular sights from the pitches, and the sunsets over the open fields come well-reviewed.

For York itself, the bus from the end of the lane runs Monday to Saturday and drops you at the centre in around 30 minutes. It is a proper low-effort city-day option from a genuinely quiet base. Adults only (16+), dogs welcome subject to a maximum of two per pitch.

Before you book

  • Showers and toilets close from 31 October until March, so winter stays are facilities-free.
  • No arrivals or departures between midnight and 7am; quiet expected from 10pm. No music on site.
  • Bus service to York runs Monday to Saturday only; no Sunday service.
Lesley and Dave run a spotlessly kept, unhurried base in a village that has stayed genuinely quiet. The York bus at the end of the road makes it more useful than it looks on a map.

Why it made the cut
