Bryher Campsite
A tent-only island campsite on Bryher with Atlantic views west and Tresco Channel east, 28 miles off the Cornish coast.
Bryher is the smallest of the inhabited Isles of Scilly, and the campsite sits in a sheltered valley at its heart, fields divided by dry-stone walls with the wild Atlantic on one side and the calmer Tresco Channel on the other. Cromwell's Castle rises from the water to the east; white sand beaches are a short walk in almost any direction. Getting here takes effort (ferry or flight from Cornwall), and that effort is precisely the point.
The site runs across several fields and campers choose their own pitch, which means early arrivals bag positions with the best views of both coastlines. Facilities are honest and well-kept: flush toilets, hot showers, and phone-charging lockers (donation-based). Bell tents are available to hire for those who can't face the logistics of bringing gear across the water.
The Fraggle Rock Bar sits just back from the beach a short walk from the campsite, and the other islands are easily reached by inter-island boat. Staff are attentive and weather-aware, which matters on an island where conditions can change sharply. The tranquility holds even during school holiday peaks.
Before you book
- Access is by ferry or small aircraft from Cornwall; plan travel in advance and allow for weather delays.
- An exposed Atlantic island means wind can be significant; staff give pitch advice to help mitigate it.
“One of the most remote and genuinely special campsites in England: an island setting that does all the work, staff who actually care, and views you'll be describing to people for years.”
Why it made the cut
- Dual-aspect views: Atlantic ocean to the west, Tresco Channel and Cromwell's Castle to the east
- Small, well-run site with good facilities (showers, toilets, charging) in a remote island context
- Direct access to white sand beaches and inter-island boats to Tresco, St Mary's, St Martin's, St Agnes
- Bell tent hire removes the logistics barrier for those travelling light
