Larkhill Tipis and Yurts

Five secluded woodland units on a Carmarthenshire smallholding where the owner remembers your name next time.

Fran's 20-acre smallholding outside Cwmduad sits in quiet Carmarthenshire hill country, twelve miles north of Carmarthen, with wide views over the Welsh countryside rolling away from the treeline. The five glamping units, tipis and yurts each tucked into their own corner of a four-acre mixed woodland, are designed for exactly the kind of offline weekend that's harder and harder to arrange.

Each unit has a wood-burning stove and fire pit, and the site runs on renewable energy. With just five structures on the whole holding, there's no sense of a pod park about it: the gaps between units are generous, the woodland provides natural screening, and the host is close enough to help if you need her but absent enough to leave you to it. Guests routinely book multiple units at once, tipis alongside the bentwood yurt and lavvu, for family gatherings where you want proximity without sharing a roof.

The Ceredigion coast is within easy reach: Mwnt Beach, Poppit Sands, Llangrannog, and Tresaith are all driveable day trips from here, as are Cardigan Bay and Carmarthen Bay further south. Back on site, the campfire and paella pan tend to win. The Daffodil Inn is about ten minutes by car for an evening pint, and The Nag's Head around twenty.

Before you book

  • Off-grid eco site with no mains electricity at the units: bring torches and phone battery packs.
Small-scale woodland glamping with real soul: a warmly run eco-site where the tipis, yurts, and open fire do most of the talking, and the Welsh countryside does the rest.
