Gwersyllt Rhos y Gallt Campsite

A quiet valley campsite in Montgomeryshire with a riverside wild field, hilly sunsets, and Glyndŵr's Way a mile from the gate.

Rhos y Gallt sits in a valley fold of mid Wales, 15 pitches tucked into two acres of level ground with a separate riverside wild camping field beyond the main site. The river is about 300 metres from the hardstanding pitches, close enough to hear and walk to easily, and the river meadow has fishing access directly from the site.

The setting does the work here. Rolling Montgomeryshire hills frame wonderful sunsets, and Glyndŵr's Way National Trail passes within a mile, making this a natural base for walkers doing the route or anyone wanting to explore on foot. Rainbow Trails and Dyfnant Forest are 4 miles away for longer days out. The host John is reliably helpful and present.

On the practical side: showers run on a coin meter (£1 for 5 minutes), laundry is on site, and electric hook-up is available on the hardstanding pitches. Dogs are welcome but limited to two per pitch. The road in is narrow, and you want to arrive turning right into the site rather than approaching from the other direction.

Before you book

  • The access road is single-track and tight; approach so you turn right into the site entrance.
  • No gate or closing time on the site, so late arrivals are possible.
An honest, unshowy campsite in a genuinely beautiful valley, with a riverside wild field and walking trails on the doorstep. Earns its reputation through setting and a good-natured host rather than facilities.
