Dol Llys Farm Caravan and Camping

Working farm on the upper Severn where the river is the campsite's beating heart, with firepits at the water's edge and two long-distance trails leaving from the gate.

Dol-Llys Farm sits a mile from Llanidloes on the banks of the River Severn, where the water is genuinely central to the experience rather than a backdrop. Riverside pitches are laid out informally along the bank, firepits are scattered throughout, and you can buy a net of logs from the farm for £6. The natural, undesignated layout gives the site a relaxed tempo that more regimented campsites can't buy.

The surrounding area is one of Mid Wales' better-kept bases. Glyndwr's Way and the Severn Way both leave from the site, Hafren Forest and Llyn Clywedog reservoir are under 15 minutes away, and Llanidloes itself is a proper market town within walking distance. For families wanting to use a site as a launchpad for a few days of walking and exploring rather than staying planted, the location does a lot of work.

Janet runs the place with the directness of someone who's been doing this for over 25 years. Facilities cover the basics well: clean showers, toilets, electric hookups with hardstanding for tourers, and a washroom with large local maps on the walls. The site takes tents, caravans, and motorhomes. Note that no dogs are allowed.

Before you book

  • No dogs allowed.
  • Showers are coin-operated (£1 for 6 minutes).
  • Access to some hardstanding pitches involves overhanging trees on the approach lane, worth bearing in mind for taller motorhomes.
A well-run working farm campsite where the River Severn earns its place as more than scenery. The combination of riverside pitches, campfire culture, and long-distance trail access from the gate makes it one of Mid Wales' more honest bases.
