Brecon Beacons Wild Camping

Turn-up-and-pitch wild camping at the foot of the Brecon Beacons, with Pen Y Fan views, fire pits included, and walking routes leaving directly from your pitch.

Lower Forest Lodge Farm sits in a valley in Powys with the Brecon Beacons rising directly above it, and the walks into the national park begin at the gate. This is by-permission wild camping done properly: you drive in, choose your spot across sunny meadow or shaded woodland, and the farmer comes round in the evening to collect payment. No app, no check-in desk, no barrier.

Portaloos are on site and kept clean, drinking water taps are at the gate, and fire pits are provided for each pitch with wood available to buy for £5 a bag. Ten Belle tents are available for those who want to arrive light. The views towards Pen Y Fan are the kind that make you get up at sunrise. Brecon town, with its canal and market, is a 5 to 10 minute drive.

The vibe is relaxed and social rather than solitary: there's space enough between pitches to feel comfortable, music plays quietly until 10:30pm, and the farmer's regular rounds give a sense of host presence without being intrusive. Dogs are welcome with leads required around farm animals; a secure enclosed dog field is available on site.

Before you book

  • No advance booking required or available: turn up and find a pitch, payment collected on site.
  • Can get lively on weekend nights; light sleepers may want ear plugs.
Proper by-permission wild camping with Pen Y Fan on the skyline, fire pits at every pitch, and a farmer who actually shows up. The Brecon Beacons rarely come this accessible at £7.50 a head.
