Fox Hagg Farm sits at the point where Sheffield's terraced streets give way to open moorland, making it one of those rare sites where you can walk into a national park from your tent and be back in the city for supper. The Peak District Boundary Walk passes within 2km, and Sheffield centre is close enough that guests turn up for graduations, concerts, and last-minute urban breaks as readily as for hillwalking.

The campsite is run by a couple who've clearly been at this long enough not to perform hospitality. Arriving guests are told where to pitch and left to it; those who seek out the farmhouse for a chat find a warm welcome and good local knowledge. Facilities are honest and dated: push-button showers, clean toilets, a pot-washing sink stocked with washing-up liquid, fresh water, and waste disposal. None of it will impress, all of it works. The site sits on a slope, so bring chocks if you need level ground.

At £7 per adult and £3.50 per child, this is the kind of value that feels almost anachronistic. Families from Sheffield use it to scratch a camping itch without a long drive; couples and solo travellers passing through the Peak District use it as an affordable overnight stop with proper facilities and good views. The sunset, on a clear evening facing west, justifies the trip on its own.
